Hire One Ltd. are one of the largest independent hire companies in South Wales, operating from their head office in Llantrisant and five other depots in Cardiff, Newport, Swansea, Aberdare and Llandow. As well as offering small tool hire and other equipment, the company hire out well over 100 mini excavators, of which 70 are Takeuchi machines.

Offering a choice from the 0.8 tonne TB108 right through to the 8 tonne TB180FR model, Hire One Ltd. can provide machines for both the private user who needs to dig their pond right through to supplying councils and civil contractors who take long term self operated hires, these accounting for around 90% of business.

Since September 2006, the Hire One Ltd. fleet has become predominantly white and red as Takeuchi machines, purchased from Min-Ex Ltd. of Cwmbran, have replaced another leading brand of excavator. A regular delivery of machines has been evident since September 2006, taking Hire One Ltd. up to their current Takeuchi fleet. The plan is to become 95% Takeuchi within 18 months, with batches of machines being delivered at stages and existing machines taken out in part exchange to Min-Ex. Part of the reason to move to Takeuchi was Min-Ex’s close proximity, friendly and efficient service and parts availability plus the machines’ excellent reliability and easy maintenance. All plant machines are fitted with Box Tele-matics Satellite trackers, allowing a virtual “ring fence” to be setup for sites and remote immobilising, reducing the chances of machines disappearing off sites. Alerts come via mobile phone or email, allowing quick action to be taken.

Hire One Ltd. operate their own fleet of mobile service vans and also have seven workshop based fitters to keep their hire machines in perfect working condition. Min-Ex are utilised for the first 100 hour service and also warranty work, should it arise, and supply parts to the company as and when required. As well as operating machines around South Wales, Hire One Ltd. have their fleet working as far a field as Portsmouth, Edinburgh and Glasgow so local service agents are used when on these sites. Wherever the machines, Hire One aim to be on site within two hours of a call to keep up their goal of having the best service backup available. As Phil Mason, Hire One managing director, points out “service is one aspect that we pride ourselves in and we aim to get a machine up and running, or replaced with another if possible as soon as we can. Min-ex provide us with parts, product advice and service and we have built a good working relationship between our companies”

Phil adds “we are looking to increase our plant and equipment significantly and are aiming to increase our excavator fleet by over 40 Takeuchi machines over the next 18 months or so.”
