Stars of Future

The CPA’s 2015 ‘Stars of the Future’ Plant Mechanic Apprentice Awards were held on Thursday 4th June at PLANTWORX to celebrate the success of those apprentices who have made an outstanding contribution to their studies and have demonstrated a real commitment to kick starting their successful careers in the construction sector.

This annual award scheme, now in its 3rd year, was devised by the CPA to recognise talented youngsters on plant mechanic apprentice schemes in colleges across the UK. The CPA is working with the 11 participating colleges to recognise and reward even more apprentices from each college. In the inaugural competition in 2013 there were 489 entries – in 2014 there were 592 entries and for 2015 a staggering 1000 students participated!

We are delighted that not only was Ben Smith, one of our apprentices, nominated but that he went on to win the Level 2 Regional Award for Wiltshire College.

Ben Smith, along with his brother, Jack, is an apprentice at CBL Newbury.  Both apprentices are doing extremely well and CBL are very pleased with their progress.

Charlotte Barford, CBL MD, commented, ‘We are delighted with Ben’s achievements and congratulate him on his award.  We believe he has the potential to go far in our industry in the future.  As a company, we recognise the need to attract young people into our industry to bridge the skills gap. We are  continuing to invest in our apprenticeship programme to provide real value both to CBL and to our apprentices.’

Latest news is that Ben has won The Selwood Cup Apprenticeship Award for Best all Round Student NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Construction Plant Maintenance at Wiltshire College Lackham.
